Goan villages largely comprise individual homes and commercial establishments which include hotels, service apartment and other businesses.
Today many of our villages are well placed and keen to implement the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and move towards the model Zero Waste village. This includes segregation of waste at source, composting of wet waste at household/community level, recycling of all dry waste and management of only rejects/sanitary waste through disposal in the centralised plant run by Hindustan Waste Management (HWMPL) in Saligao.
In the last 3 years, some work towards executing a zero waste village has been executed in Assagao through a local NGO called Live Happy in association with Saahas Zero Waste. Both of which Forca Goa has joined hands with.
We do believe that the decentralised model has to expand to provide an end to end waste management system for all households and commercial entities.
